A Night in Copenhagen

It was twilight when the train left Hamburg for Copenhagen, although by the time we crossed the Kiel Canal, remnants of the sun still linger. I wonder if I should visit a fiord up north than head east to Copenhagen. But then, when we reached Kolding, I just stayed in the train, watch the people say their goodbyes as the train started heading east. There was a point that I got confused. I didn’t know if I should get off the train or not when we reached Nyborg. The conductor instructed me to stay inside the train and to my amazement, the entire train was swallowed up by the ship. Indeed, I was inside the train which was inside the ship. I did not do much on the ship. I disembarked and roamed its deck. Soon, it was back to the train to continue on its journey.
When I we reached Copenhagen, the sky had turned black. I befriended a young chap. We talked and agreed to continue on conversing at a bar by the Radhus. We talked about many things: America, Norway, its economics and money, Sweden and Denmark. The Danes don’t like the Swedes much, according to him. They get drunk and become obnoxious. Both of us have never been to Norway but we guess that it was the most if not among the most expensive country in the world.
By the time we separated, it was twelve midnight. He walked home while I begin to roam the city, not to tour it but to find an affordable hostel or hotel. The hostel was already closed. So, the only option was a hotel…which I could not afford. I headed back to the train station but the station closes for the night. Therefore, for the small hours of the night, I slept on the street, standing up while my towel covered my head. Indeed, I heard revelers still at it at this hour. A police car passed me by. Thank heavens they did not shine a beam of light on me. They respected my privacy. And at about four am, I heard the baker clanging his tools to bake bread. I was so tired and cold that my feet swell. By the time it was five am, I was back at the train station sleeping, sitting down and not lying down. I waited for my train back to Hamburg that when I got into my car, I was so groggy that I drooled all the way back without ever realizing it.
Maybe, it was not time yet to visit this fantastic city. Oh no, maybe not. Maybe, I meant to miss the Tivoli, Christiania and the Little Mermaid. Maybe I won’t hear the stories about the royalty and how they managed their affairs for someone else will tell me about them. Maybe it was not yet time for me to take it easy and drink beer by its ramparts and find new friends such as Soren to show me the way; for I am tired that it will be another time when I can spend another episode to enjoy this city’s idiosyncrasies.
