The Commercialization: Blind-eye-ing Residential Contractor Fraud Against Seniors 5/18/2011 8:09:14 AM It's no exaggeration to state that most journals and blogs designated for senior citizens are replete with the joys of, at last, having a lot of free time to be more active, and to do more things.
So much commercialization of what it "really means" to now be a senior citizen, retired or not, but with a lot more "freedom" time on your hands.
Click anywhere on the net for senior blogs and periodicals, and I guarantee you that close to 100% are so programmed that you don't hear about the 76-year-old man who just died on the street because of a deal gone bad with a residential contractor he hired to work around his home. He was foreclosed and his house taken from him.
You don't hear about the 88-year-old widow, who was intimidated for seven, consecutive months by a dishonest contractor in Cheektowaga, New York, and extorted out of more tnan $82,000.00 by him.
You don't hear about the guy arrested in Rockland County, New York for scamming a 90-year-old Spring Valley homeowner out of $1500.00 on a project bid of $2800.00. He was arrested just a couple weeks ago (May 5, 2011).
If you're an American homeowner or home dweller, irrespective of your age, there's always the risk that you'll be another casualty of some dishonest relative or residential contractor.
Life, in itself, according to how we choose to live it, is made to be enjoyed. But, that's sort of difficult to do when you're out several hundred or several thousand dollars, and your home's on the block, because of your dealings with some shoddy contractor, you can't even locate.
For more info on how you can avoid home improvement fraud, or if you've got any questions or issues about being ripped off on the home front, we're only a few taps away:
