Have you Ever Heard of Easton, CT?

Have you ever visited Easton, CT? It’s a tiny town, with about 7,000 residents. I love it because it’s my hometown and growing up on our family’s riding school was great. All I wanted was to be a champion rider. My sisters, Terri and Holly, both were winning in horse shows at five and three years old!
• What makes Easton special? It’s beautiful and peaceful. Neighbors are friendly and quick to come to your aid if you need them. How do I know? Because my family suffered a tragedy when our barn burned down. In spite of my dad’s valiant efforts, two horses died. All of our neighbors came to help rebuild our barn. It was a great example of the Golden Rule.
• Easton isn’t a bustling metropolis, but we had a cozy little country store, a farm with home grown fruits and vegetables (Silverman’s Farm. It’s still flourishing) We had a Christmas tree farm where you could wander through the fields and choose the perfect tree.
• Maybe you’re wondering if anyone famous lived in Easton: In fact famous author and philanthropist Helen Keller lived in Easton for many years. She had a beautiful estate called Arcan Ridge, which she loved. As you probably know, Helen Keller was blind and deaf. My friend, Ilona’s dad was her gardener. He used to bring her fresh flowers and she’d recognize him by his footsteps! Also, Hume Cronyn and his wife, Jessica Tandy, had an estate in Easton.
• My favorite Place: I loved our house, the sprawling Victorian mansion built in 1893. It took the original owner, Sylvanus Mallet, three years to build the house. Our house was featured in the Centennial edition of the town calendar in 1993.The kitchen was big enough to hold a dance. It had beautiful features such as a field stone fireplace, a fireplace with olive colored marble, a built in china cabinet with a secret compartment, just to mention a few. The name of our farm was Sweetbrier and the word “Sweetbrier” is carefully engraved on the top section of the house. We were always busy with the horses and my sisters and I all taught riding there. It wasn’t fun when the stable help didn’t show up for work and we had thing to do that we didn’t expect, but we became strong, responsible people because of our childhood experiences. We learned time management. We knew that we were responsible for doing our best every day, something we all should strive for, don’t you agree? Our farm still exists under the name of Lion Hill Farm. It still feels like home when I visit there.
