Crap Happy!

What’s going on with our world? It seems there are no happy stories out there anymore! At least, not in the papers or on the news channels; and if there are any, they are soon squashed by the next horrific headline. Go into any store (big box ones have their own special ‘box’) and there are a litany of woes – few customers, high rents, poor service, thoughtless shoppers – Did I mention few customers?
I think a positive domino effect is in order: Tile #1 – RESPECT; #2 - a smile; #3 – an upbeat greeting; #4 – a compliment; #5 – a dash of ‘benefit of the doubt’; #6 - a helping hand; #7 – positive criticism, #8 – humility (prerequisite to tile #7); #9 – a hearty laugh shared; and tile #10 – courage, to put old habits back in the box, and set the above tiles up, over and over again. (I’m hoping to get faster with practice)
I’m not undermining the serious issues out there, but, in order to be effective in making any change, passion is required, and I want to stock my‘passion cupboard’with ingredients that I will need in order to make a positive change in this world.
………Intermission for Research……….
So, I just got back from a brisk walk into town; a listen to Arthur Black’s show on the CBC this morning told me that exercise, besides toning the body, actually builds up brain tissue as well! I’m not sure if it is working yet, although the hum of firing neurons in my ears is definitely louder.
I did notice a wonderful coincidence, though, as I tested the above domino theory: after each encounter on my walk, I heard the wonderful tinkling sound of wind chimes. The last one was the bell on the door of the dollar store as I exited. (I’ve got to get a handle on this balloon addiction!) Of the ten people in the store itself, nine of them were smiling and responding to my greetings in true Spring fashion; the other one seemed to be experiencing issues of some sort, so I had to pull out extra tiles: the twin ‘athy’ sisters: sympathy and empathy. I’m not sure if it helped that troubled person, but it made me feel pretty good.
Please join me in ‘tipping the tiles’, and pay attention to the ‘domino effect’ that follows each time. I may have misplaced a few tiles, or forgotten some good ones that are still in the box – please share.
Wouldn’t it be great to see the world ‘happy’ –not ‘crappy’?
