What's The Word?

What’s The Word?

A powerful force is what it is - whether it is written, spoken or sung! When it came time to pack up and move to our new home, words were the hardest things to purge. I carefully took out my collection of greeting cards and reluctantly cut them in half; I saved all of the ‘words’ that had been sent to me on cards of all kinds over the years, and let the picture sides go to my grandkids (I will be waiting in anticipation of beautiful recycled creations to come back to me!). I totally appreciate the amazing e-cards that come to us over the web – they are beautiful and totally fun to watch develop, but I will always have a special place in my heart for the sincere, heart-felt written messages on cards that come through the post. I try to remember that, and put my own heart into the greeting cards that I send. Sometimes it’s hard to think of anything significant to say, but speaking for myself, I know that the simplest happy memory shared can trigger so much warmth; It is like getting a miniature present – Someone has decided that I am worth the cost of the card and the postage, but more than that; they have taken time out of their busy day to really think about me and send me words that connect us again and bring a smile. The artwork and printed words can be beautiful or hilarious, but what I really look forward to seeing is the signature, and the comments on the card – they can come at just the right time. A child’s first signature is viewed with admiration and total appreciation; when did our adult signatures become less amazing? It’s time to slowly write our names and then sit back and look at them – they are totally unique and valuable – and so are we! The handwritten notes on my collection of cards are still something I take out from time to time; and off I go - down memory lane – a stroll that is getting longer and more beautiful every year. ‘Word’!
