Faster than a speeding bullet
8/21/2011 11:39:36 AM
Some of you probably remember the old "Adventures of Superman" television program. That show hailed the "Man of Steel" as being "faster than a speeding bullet." As rapid as that may be, here is something that travels even faster: A LIE! I now quote Mark Twain: "A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes." If Mark was here today, he perhaps would say that a lie can travel entirely around the world before the truth even finds its shoes.

Lies can ruin a person's career and life in a twinkling of an eye, as could gossip. Our justice system claims that we are "innocent until proven guilty," but the "court of public opinion" puts an entirely opposite SPIN on that right that we are all guaranteed. Even the rich and powerful have been knocked down by a remark taken out of context that has been launched into cyberspace almost as quickly as it has been uttered.

Bottom line: It is imperative that we choose our words wisely and that our actions are above reproach.
