IS THAT ALL THERE IS?

Honestly, how many of us are shackled in the flesh? I'm referring to things like pornography, drugs or alcohol, gambling, and the lust for power or money. How often do we say, "Is that all there is to this life?" Simon and Garfunkel once sang this lyric: "A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest." What exactly does mankind disregard? I would venture to say that it's the heights of humility. Now that's an oxymoron if I ever saw one.
The Rolling Stones couldn't get any satisfaction either. Why is that? So what's the story anyway? The key to true joy and happiness in our sojourn here on earth follows: Get rid of sloth, despair, lust for power and acrimony. How? We must acquire chastity, humility and patience. Nonsense? You'll eventually find out that neutralizing self-sabotaging impulses is done by elimination, not acquisition.
Always remember dear reader, that we make a living by what we get. But we make a life by what we give.
