Why I Write

A glance at what motivates one single writer
Like any author, I write for several reasons, but they can all be summed up in top ten favorite quotes of all time:
"Write, for the night is coming!"
I write because I simply cannot NOT write.
Hokey as it may sound, every word I write is written as a means of connecting with you, both as a reader and a human being. Life is far too short, and too many people feel they are alone, no matter how many others may surround them. I hope that you might see yourself reflected in my words and realize that what unites us is far more important than what divides us.
And partly for that reason my main characters are non-threateningly gay and the plots of my books are set within the gay community, which I want to show those who may not be familiar with it as not as alien as they might think.
It is my firm belief that our society has reached the point where a good story well told, with interesting plots and sympathetic/likeable characters are far more important than who sleeps with whom. I feel quite sorry for those who have not reached that point.
I've often pointed out that a writer without readers is like a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear it fall: without readers, the writer does not exist.
As you know if you've read my blogs here and elsewhere before, I am constantly trying to divide my time between letting prospective readers know I'm here, and actually writing. It's not easy. But somehow I'll be having two more books come out this year: the 12th book in the Dick Hardesty series and the first book in a new mystery series with paranormal overtones.
