Blog Upon a Friday Afternoon

I noticed on my way into town that some of the trees are beginning to bud out. Hope springs eternal.
I've been reflecting on ladybugs of late--not that I can really help but reflect on them, since they are everywhere and the news has apparently gotten out in the ladybug community that I do not kill them, so they seem to look upon my house as something of a sanctuary.
A few have been with me all winter, most noticibly a couple in the bathroom who seem to have taken up residence on my bathroom sink. I assume they are the same two, but with ladybugs it's a little hard to tell.
They seem to be a laid back lot, unless it occurs to them to move about, which it apparently seldom does. Occasionally one will climb to the top of a shampoo bottle for no reason I can possibly imagine, other than the thrill of the conquest.
But what fascinates me most about them is that, should they find themselves atop something round, like a water glass, they will go around and around and around endlessly. At first I thought they were just getting some badly needed walking-track exercise, but I later decided they keep going because they actually think they're going somewhere. They really can't tell a circle from a straight line.
I've known quite a few people like that.
However, I've not noticed any ladybugs in the bathroom since my paranoid cat (I know, a redundancy) took up forced residence there yesterday. She has recently been refusing to use the litterbox, preferring instead anything left laying on the floor. Her favorite spot has been the throw rug directly in front of the bathroom door, which I rapidly tired of washing every time she used it, so I took to laying a plastic garbage bag in place of the rug. No difference to her. I then got the brilliant idea of setting a fresh box of litter on top of the plastic, thinking she'd take the hint. She didn't. How she managed to miss the litterbox and keep it on the bag I don't know, but she did.
So yesterday I hied her in to the vet who, $119 later, suggested I confine her to a small uncarpeted area. The batroom is the only such area to have a closeable door. The vet also suggested I put the litter box in the bathtub, over the drain (to prevent the cat from using the drain, as apparently they are won't to do when pressed). Tried it. No luck.
I was also given some pink liquid medication, which I have to put in her mouth via a small syringe twice a day. Oh, sure. Tried it this morning and had to go change my white office shirt, which is probably stained pink forever. Tonight should be fun.
I am growing weary of these little games. But the cat, like the ladybugs, knows that I am a true patsy and that will not resort to my only logical option: murder.
So that was my Friday afternoon so far. How's yours?
