Court Rejects Strict Gun Laws as Unconstitutional

And Bush plans to up troop count in Iraq and Afghanistan
A federal appeals court in Washington went back to the timeframe of the Revolutionary War to strike down a gun control law in D.C. that bars residents from keeping handguns in their homes. When the Second Amendment was added to the Constitution, it was due to British warships armed to the gunnels and loaded with soldiers landing in backyards of people’s homes when the tide was right. The wording gave the average person the ‘right to bear arms’ to protect their families. Now that we don’t have any warships landing in anyone’s yard, the law seems silly.
However, when you have the National Rifle Association and their powerful lobby, plus gun manufacturers fighting the ban on weapons for all, we don’t stand a chance. So now you have women shooting their husbands dead when they stagger in late at night on the pretext that they imagined he was a prowler. You have neighbors taking up arms against one another to settle disputes. Then you have the Road Rage Warriors shooting other drivers because they were cut off, or the other driver is doing 40 in a 60mph zone or some imagined insult.
And yet, when you analyze it, people often turn in guns when the local police hands out rewards for guns. Others get rid of their guns when something tragic or near tragic occurs with their kids and those guns. Whatever the reasons, people are voluntarily dumping guns because they consider them dangerous. So now murders are being committed by psychos wielding ball bats, and psychos stabbing people and burning their bodies and other psychos running offenders down with their cars. Therefore, if we ban guns we also have to ban ball bats, knives, cigarette lighters and matches, and autos because they’re used to kill as well. Banning guns doesn’t lower the murder rate; judges who refuse to hand out sentences that are on the books and part of written laws are the problem.
In New York along with several other states, legislatures pressured by vote seeking politicians declared the death penalty illegal because it’s inhumane. Gee. I wonder what victims of their murderous brutality would say if they were still alive and had a voice. Does anyone consider the sheer terror of a victim being battered about the head or set on fire as inhumane? I guess not. It seems in this day and age we’re on our own. Hence the strict gun laws being shot down. This way if we defend ourselves against one of these psychos and shoot in self-defense judges won’t have the tormenting bother of what sentence to impose on the batterer that won’t be considered inhumane.
Then again, we have to be extremely careful. If a psycho breaks into your house and kills your family, lets you live and runs out the door, you cannot shoot him/her in the back out on the street because if the nut job is running away, he/she is no longer considered a threat and you shooting that person in the back is construed as murder. If you shoot a psycho in the ankle or leg to avoid killing him/her, if that person is permanently crippled they can sue you in court and win. So do we really want guns for protection? Again, the only people who are protected are the psychos and the nut jobs who would do us harm. They can carry guns, kill us and get off with light sentences because anything else is inhumane. So why did this court shoot down the Second Amendment to the Constitution, if you’ll pardon the pun? Was this really a smart move?
While Bush mambos and shows off his Spanish Speak, he still dreams of war.
George is in South America as I noted on TV the other night, trying to do a Salsa while his wife stood on the sidelines with a hip jigging Condy Rice who was also moved by the music, which was wonderful. I personally love Latin music so I can understand all of the action on the dance floor by our less than esteemed Commander in Chief.
However, while all of this is going on, George asked Congress for $3.2 billion to pay for 8,200 more US troops needed in Afghanistan and Iraq on top of the 21,500 troops he already sent over. George claims he needs 3,500 additional troops to help train the Afghanistan’s to prepare to fight the enemy. I tell you what: if I was being attacked it would take me about two seconds to learn fire a gun. With thousands of enemy troops running at you, chances are you’ll hit some of them. When the bullets ran out I’d start hailing rocks and whatever else I could. They need help to fight for themselves? Shame on them.
George also wants money to pay the 3,500 existing U.S. troops he’s forcing to remain to counter an anticipated Taliban offensive in Afghanistan this spring. That’s in Afghanistan.

Hey George, I have to tell you something. Osama Bin Laden just celebrated his 50th birthday—so he’s partying too—and he heads the al Qaeda. So while you’re building up forces to fight the Taliban, that other bunch is laughing like the devil at your stupidity. Besides, a lot of people think that by adding 21,500 here and 8,200 there in troops, you’re building up forces on the sly to escalate the war and not try to resolve the mess you got us into. Not nice, George.
