And A Little of That.
Cpl. Pat Tillman; NFL star turned soldier.
Pat Tillman was more concerned with upholding his country’s honor than with making a million or more a year in the NFL. From all accounts he was a good son, husband, soldier who joined the Rangers after enlisting; a dangerous choice if ever there was one. The Rangers are the band of soldiers who scout the area ahead of their troops in order to make it safer for companies of men to move forward. It’s dangerous work because the enemy uses Rangers too. If Tillman met an enemy Ranger, he had to make certain any kill was silent. He had to make sure he wasn’t taken out by an enemy sniper. And he had to make sure he didn’t step on a land mine or detonate a bomb in his path. Not an easy task but he wanted it. He truly believed he was there to make a difference and to keep his country safe.
The day he was killed, he was riding back to camp in a jeep with another soldier—possibly a Ranger, too—and they both happened upon four U.S. troops who were heavily armed and skittish. Also, the first report on the four held information that all four suffered from some sort of eye damage or vision problems and were unable to see clearly. So they couldn’t tell if enemy troops were approaching or their own men. The person in charge of the four needed eye surgery. I don’t remember what was wrong with the other three because it’s been so long, but the report mentioned slight fog in the area and the inability to see even without the fog.
When they started to fire at Pat Tillman and the other man in his jeep, the four couldn’t hear their pleas to stop shooting because they were U.S. Rangers because the four were busy shooting. They were young, skittish, scared, and wanted to live the same an every troop in Iraq, Afghanistan and in every other hellhole they’re stuck in overseas. That fear meant no matter who or whom I kill, I’m going home alive. Personally, I don’t blame the four. The blame starts at the top, with a Commander in Chief who’s lied his way through six years of a crummy administration and I blame the generals who supported his lies no matter what the truth, and I blame the idiots who voted for him second time around because it was around that time that his lies became evident and they still pushed the ‘I Support George’ button.
So now we have thousands of young men and women still fighting a useless cause over George’s blatant lies, some handicapped to the point they do not belong on the front lines. Thousands dead; thousands returning home missing limbs: eyes, hands, legs, arms, faces. And that moron in the White House has the nerve to hold back on the real cause of Pat Tillman’s death in an attempt to further support for his war? Lies on top of lies until the truth becomes such a mixed up mess it takes a Congressional Hearing to straighten it all out and even then you can’t be certain you’re coming up with the truth. Good job, George. I know your momma’s proud. Too bad other mothers are suffering for your stupidity.
Update on ITT
ITT is paying a $100 million dollar penalty for illegally selling classified night-vision technology used in military operations to China, Singapore and the United Kingdom. This company is the largest manufacturer of night-vision equipment for U.S. armed forces and pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to two felony charges—but no one’s going to jail. Gee. That’s curious. NOT! With George in charge, corporations get away with murder.
One charge against this company was: exporting defense articles without a license. The second charge is: omission of statements of material facts in arms export reports. Okay. There you have it. The company lied in their reports. Now how could George or any of his military people demand prison terms for ITT officials when they’re guilty of the same offense—lying. And to think the company said they exported the goggles in order to cut costs? Doesn’t make sense. If they inferred that they didn’t make enough money, then they shouldn’t have handed in the lowest bid just to win the contract.

I agree wholeheartedly with the Lt. Col. Too many times men hold back their emotions, whether they are anger or grief, until they’re a ticking time bomb ready to explode at the slightest provocation. My late husband never knew what it was to cry until he married me… Maybe I should rephrase that. When his mother died he shed no tears although he was torn up inside. It was the same with his father years later. It took me quite a while but I finally convinced him that there was no shame in crying, that it’s not just for women. Men need to let out their emotions because tears are a source of healing; of letting go of the internal pain.
I’m not trying to turn men into wusses, just human beings with the ability to experience all sorts of emotions and act on them. To my surprise, there are a lot men who never tell their spouses or SO’s that they love them. Wow. There’s no disgrace in expressing love either. Sometimes holding back comes from a rigid upbringing or hanging with the wrong crowd of men—with those who feel emoting makes you less of a man. I disagree. Displaying emotions takes a lot of courage.
