Pondering Egos and Promises
4/9/2009 8:24:54 AM    [ Flag as Inappropriate ]

A wall that no one seems to able to scale!
It's a sad day as the on-going relationship between Wessman and PS City Council is filled with broken promises, manipulation, con-artistry against each other, etc. These two entities have played such heavy handed politics with each other that they are unable to move forward in 'good faith' and 'honesty'. As a resident, it's difficult watching this plays out over and over again . . . It's a stalemate. Neither side wins . . . and the residents, downtown businesses and visitors are paying for this dysfunctional relationship.
The mayor and council members used the situation to win office, proclaiming and promising resolution and revitalization of the downtown area. Wessman continues to use the situation to showcase his power, money and intelligence in buying the prime property in Palm Springs. Now egos are pumped and the game continues even though it's clearly a stalemate. Most the spectators (residents and businesses) are frustrated, disappointed and clearly irritated with the whole situation.
It's Ayn Rand's 'Howard Rourke' (Wessman) verses the traditional 'politics of promise' (Mayor and Council). For now they can blame the lack of progress on the economy. But all of us who know the history have enough evidence to know that this is the ultimate 'standoff'! Time will pan out some reality, but meanwhile, the residents, visitors and downtown businesses suffer at the threshold of a 'wall' that no one seems to be able to scale!
