How And Why Do We Get Old?
11/28/2011 2:00:11 PM
reflecting on the passing of time!
I suppose I could have called this a lesson in history as I sometimes feel I am ancient, but on the other hand I still feel like a young girl at times. How is it that some of us last for so many years and feel as though they can go on forever. I myself cannot imagine not being here in the midst of all this chaos created by my family and the world around us. My mind is young, maybe I owe that to the fact I am surrounded by young people, living in the now, picking up on their language and such. Yet they laugh at the old fashioned and outdated expressions I use and the moral and endearing upbringing I cling too, that in its self presents conflicts at times with the youngsters I live around. Hopefully some of what I think and beleive will rub off on them and they can pass it on to those that follow down the line. This coming Wednesday, November 30th, I will be eighty years old. I don't feel old. There is still much I want to do. Should I worry that the most of my life is behind me and the time ahead is much shorter? I think not! I planted peach and plum trees this past summer and as the young man who carefully placed them in the tilled earh worked, I watched and thought of the day I could pick the fruit from the young trees. I laughed to myself and told the boy," When an eighty year old woman plants a tree she is a very optimistic old lady thinking she will be able to harvest the fruit." But then I have always been an optomist. I think that is the best way to look at life. Believing and having eternal hope. When hope fades and there is nothing to look forward too, thats when we wither on the vine, so to speak. The little children keep me moving and alert to their pranks. They think I am their playmate, and so I am. Between them and my little dog Shootsie I know I am very loved. I look forward each day to the happy faces and cheerful greetings and know it will be another busy, bustling day around our house, and I settle in and plan the next chapter of my new book or lay out a sketch for the new painting I have pictured in my mind, and I dream too of the past and all those who I miss and look forward to seeing when I have fullfilled God's plan for me. Until then I will savor each sweet moment and season and plan on reaping my harvest in the fall!
