Best Sellers 9/15/2008 6:33:31 PM Sour grapes & wrath on some best sellers, not the likes of Grapes of Wrath. Has anyone noticed lately that the "best sellers" are becoming plot boring. Samo...samo? Is it because the mainstream publishers have bought famous authors and don't really care about the content of their work? Have you noticed the size of a biggie authors name in comparison to the miniscule title size on the front cover?
The detective books will have their pet dog antics taking up alot of print...or they have a divorced husband or wife they still love?
Is it because the readers are loyal fans and don't really care about content? Are the big publishers pushing big authors into a production rate that is causing them to use fast fill and even boiler plate text to meet their deadlines?
Meanwhile out in the never never land of mainstream publisher rejection there are some self-publish jewels written by a group of authors whose books contain original ideas, some even with a literal quality that accelerates above and beyond many mundane "best seller" product of today. On front covers the titles of their books are in large words...their names can be found somewhere below in small print.
Like to hear any opinions you have about the state of so called mainstream publisher "best sellers". And you take on the quality of self pubished work.
Thanks,
Bill Flynn
