Bird Shirt

It has a red body
And a purple tail
It has blue wings
Perfect for a gail
It sits atop a nest
Of blue and green and yellow
Three little eggs
On the makings of a sparrow

Mother made it carefully
Each detailed stitch
The colors were for fun
To make reality a switch

(Long version):

Birds and Flowers

It has a red body
And a purple tail
It has blue wings
Perfect for a gail
It sits atop a nest
Of blue and green and yellow
Three little eggs
On the makings of a sparrow

Mother made it carefully
Each detailed stitch
The colors were for fun
To make reality a switch

Sometimes we see things
In a way that’s real
Sometimes we miss the fun
Because we can’t see further
To see on the colors
In a bird or flower
We stay so busy
We do not know their power

They change a gloomy day
Into a bright one
To make what’s dull and boring
Into laughter and sun

Watch a bird the next time
You’re sitting on your porch
Or give one a glance
Out the window when you are at work

The bird has food provided
Everywhere it goes
It has nesting tools in many places
It just gathers them and goes

The same is with the flower
It has its tools to thrive
Right there in the ground
And above us in the sky

It ruffles in the wind
And it looks so pretty
It gives us so much joy
With color and its setting

The bird and the flower
Get neglected all the time
We look at them and think
There’s plenty more to come

We forget they need clean air
And clean water too
They need space to grow
And a place to roost

Most important though
They live just like us
To live and breath and grow
From the grace of the sun
