I wrote this poem to deal with the grief of losing a parent. I hope God this helps somebody (anybody) who faces grief. I was catapulted into Planet Depression while I was in the mist of my middle age crisis. I have no enemies, but if I did, I would not even wish them anything like this - so very painful!

A second time Grief visited my heart

When mom into the sunset had to depart:

A pervasive sense of loss and distress

Painted my days deep black, I confess.

Sorrow and suffering held me closely tight

To have me stubbed everywhere in fright.

Feelings of guilt and denial had me realize

I had been intensely beaten - and my cries

Into a dark dungeon kept my soul in ties.

A feeble light slowly came in.  My jail got bright

When mom and dad as two angels came on site.

They were fine and wanted me to see the light.

They promised to come back one day to hold my hand

In crossing to the other side and in bliss - stand.

They smiled and helped me open my jail door

So I could walk away from my sorry plight.

Then home I ran, the magic castle I adore

To rebuild what Grief had ruined in its flight.

Great poem. Good grief, we will all come to see the light in time, God's time. Loved this and thank you for suggesting I read it too.

This poem has touched my heart. My mother is getting older. She will be 81 this year and there are many times that I worry about losing her. I keep reminding myself that I should enjoy her company and not worry about how things will be when she passes on. I fear losing my mother, but at the same time, when she does pass on in the years to come, I will always have the special and warm memories to guide me through the dark nights.

Yes you have been to the abyss, may you never visit there again. A deeply touching poem.
