I grab, but miss
Her hand misses mine and she falls
She screams
Fire engulfs her and then night engulfs the fire
Alone so cold I stand
Fear clutches my throat
A scream
Her scream?
No the wind
A call for help?
No, a bird flutters by.
Sound then resound that high pitched cry that killed her
How she lived then died before me
Again resound the wail I made
The scream I screamed.
The heartache
The loss of a friend, a lifelong companion
The loss almost my fault for missing her hand
I tried so hard to grasp

Alone so cold I stand
Dazed and numb
The building still burns and the sirens get louder and louder.
