...when a tap becomes smiling joy

TAP TAP TAP !

Grading papers I could not finish the night before, I hear tapping behind the shaded window in the classroom.

I want to ignore it as I have so much to do, but the possibility of hurting a students feelings overpowers my selfishness.

Raising the blinds, I see Tim Duncan pressed against the glass.

Peeking from behind the poster

A pair of pitch black eyes

Find mine

This instant is followed by a smile

And the motion to open the side door

We walk to the emergency exit door and any anxieties that I had brought to my room

Simply leaped out of me and transformed

Into a huge hug !

It was only a few moments

Moments that helped me greet my incoming class

With a smile

Instead of the frown

That was painted on my face

Before that moment

Tap, tap, tap......Who is it?

Always respond to a knock

Always pick up the phone

Always answer the door

Always respond to a tap
