for my school leaving mass

An open box, an unlocked gate,

broad pathways not the product of fate

but the fruits of compassion, humanity and love

the spirit descends and soars like a dove

smiles, tears, laughter, sighs

limited and narrow to broad and wise

seeds sprouted attached by roots resilient

times difficult but moments brilliant

the rapidity of change shaking our calm

but guidance and friendship softens the alarm

engulfed by sweet liberation’s ribbon trail

individual faces with individual tales

a treasure chest of memories sit in our hearts

and occupies the void that separation imparts,

as we lay our thoughts to rest

we acknowledge the ways in which we have been blessed
