Excerpt from No Love Lost

i fell in love with a magician

she played tricks on my heart

and gave illusions to my soul

made us all believe

covered herself with her cape

so none of her secrets

would ever escape

wore a top hat

to contain thoughts that

just might inform me

kept her right hand

at her right side and

used her to assist

in the illusion

called me to the stage

convinced me it was safe

stuck me in her box

so all was covered but my face

so very slowly slid in each sword

only after she swore

she'd never hurt me

felt a pinch at my side

but i trusted she was right

why would she intentionally

slice me

she loves me

there's a stab in my chest

another blade

came out the other side

completely clean

the crowd cheered

she was succeeding

or so it appeared

the pain i felt was real

even if no one else knew

i'd have to choose

to continue

or to stop the illusion

she smiled at me and i melted

why would she harm me

i was her love

wasn't i

the last blade

sprung out of its case

she smiled a great big smile

a bright light grew in her face

she slammed it across the top

of the box

right across my neck

the crowd didn't cheer

and neither did she

blood poured from my body

and she froze right where she stood

i bled right in front of her

and she did nothing

she created my wounds

and did nothing to try to heal them

just stood in amazement

that her actions really

created flesh wounds so real then

walked away

how could she kill me

i'm still me

but she's not who i thought she was

guess thats my fault

for falling for an illusionist

and trusting her with my life

in the midst
