Years ago, I got a gift
from a wise and caring friend.
Though I’d had it all along,
I couldn’t comprehend
how big it was and yet so small;
how it was there, yet not at all.
My friend said, “You’re one of many
who can change this special place.”
I could tell how much he meant it
by the look upon his face.
Then I went far away,
where my Soul so longed to be,
where no mind could imagine,
no eyes could ever see.
While I was there I wondered
just how to use this thing.
Should I cause grownups to cry
or make the children sing?
I sat with my confusion
‘til I knew just what to do—
as this gift was passed to me,
I pass it on to you.
But, though I give this gift to you,
It does not come from me.
The Gift is God Himself—
if you only choose to see!
