Tribute To Michael Jackson: A Mortal Legacy
by Poetry by Deborah

Friday, June 26, 2009
Rated "G" by the Author.

The King of music,
Prince of pop.
Man! Michael Jackson
knew how to rock.

Alone he travelled through his life
though many by his side.
Where did this young man find his peace?
In the bittersweet sorrow, he'd hide.

Too much power, too much fame,
they had to take him down.
Poor Michael, sad Michael,
a smile that was a frown.

Can you imagine what it must have been like
to never experience one's own life?
Never committing to anyone,
never taking to heart a wife.

No outdoor playtime with other kids,
No movie matinees.
No basketball, no hockey
No little child's playful days.

No balance in his lifetime,
he lived for music and his fans.
Committing young to a life alone,
though millions had touched his hands.

He lived in a world of make-believe,
a child still, among the men.
But oh, what a message his music held,
a broken heart, they created his end.

Unsavoury characters in the last few years,
feigned friendship tried and true ,
You didn't know, Michael, sweet soul
they were stealing the inside of you.

Crushing your dreams, and robbing you blind
with a knife held at your back.
A smile of ice upon their face
just before each brutal attack.

I played your music, danced and sang
many times down through the years.
The shock I felt, "Michael Jackson has died,"
my eyes welled up with tears.

His music echoed around the world,
voice was strong and step was sure.
Yet mankind has never, ever found
a broken-hearted cure.

God has added a new voice now
to His all-time rock and roll band.
Performing on His stage in heaven
with the best damn musicians in the land.

How many of us remember
how he opened wide his home
for children in a fight for life,
so they wouldn't be alone.

A heart of gold in a troubled soul,
his dark night he lives no more,
Michael left his mortal skin behind
and walked through Heaven's door.

He gave it all, everything he had
to all of us, his kindred friends.
Now a beautiful voice is silent
and his journey has reached its end.

His legacy will live forever
in hearts all around this globe,
and his music will echo down the corridors of time
where he dances on the wings of his soul.

It was a bright and sunny day,
Thursday, the 25th of June,
When Michael's spirit walked away
to walk his walk upon the moon.

So, play your music loud and strong
in tribute to such a great man.
A mortal, undying legacy
he left the people of this land.

The King of music,
Prince of pop,
Man! Michael Jackson
knew how to rock.

A tribute truly worthy of a "King of Pop." Not at all hard to imagine him setting these lines to music and dancing with the poet across a brilliantly shining rainbow. Thank you for the great read.
