 The image slips

beneath locked lids,
Residence claimed quick
beneath pursed lips.

The dream sequence sticks
Repeating in time with
the clock, it clicks
Into place as it
Records the time,
Saving something for those
who are morally blind.

But shatter-shank shards
That slip under skin,
A sliver of truth
slices lies, all akin.

Then up swells the doubt,
Soft skin erupts, ruby and dark,
Baby-smooth palms reddened with gout.

The pain continues,
Trudge through and through
Until none remains,
of a previous slough.
