Three years ago--and after a 15 year relationship--my brother and his partner married in NY after the passage of a marriage equality act. Soon after they set out on creating a large family. One year later they found the perfect egg donor and surrogate. They hoped for twins. One from each father. But only one fertilized egg survived. His partners. Three months into the pregnanacy, my bothers partner learned he had ALS. That was a year ago.

This is for Danni & Dave (and baby Orion).

Wanted to type something tonight.
Just felt the need to tap the keys.

Run, run, running
Need to keep running.

My heart is always racing.
Grab it quick!
Throttle it!
For the love of God
Oh hell,
Just keep running.
Can't waste any seconds
Damn, those invisible calculi have already elapsed.

Day by day.
Moment by moment.

Roll, roll you over.
Breathe, take a breath.
Yes, I'll move your foot.
Let me place your hand ... here?
This way?

Rub your cold feet.
Scratch your itchiness.
Cover you.
Warm you.
Love you.
Always loving
In everything.
Damn, your head is falling over.
What's with this harness?
Come, breathe, please.

I wish I could tell you
Of my fears.
Of my deep, deep sadness.
Of my losing you.
All the moments to share
Now left unlived.
We were our tomorrows.
Our future days together.

People make plans
And God laughs us short a few decades.

Just keep breathing.
Day by day.
Please, stay
With me.

My partner of 23 years could have written this very poem. While I don't have the rapid onset ALS provides, she has been struggling with my very same needs that grow greater every year until, at some point, she will have to turn it over to others.

Even in tragedies like these, life goes on. Orion will carry the memories. We thought of a similar procedure 20 years ago and actually were able to make do with the good old-fashioned way with no result. However, a social worker advised against us having children because of the strain it would put on her trying to take care of the both of us. I often think of that unborn child, now near graduation from college… An opportunity missed.

Well the devil would love for all of us to live in darkness and despair. This has nothing to do with the Lord. I almost died recently and I still did not blame God. We will all find out soon enough who is our real enemy. The thing is we don't want to go down with a demonic ship. May our Lord Jesus Chris be with you and your family. I pray for a miracle that would be a testimony for the whole wide world. Amen

Dramatic poetical words this morning. No, God didn't laugh, there is no God. This is a very sad write.
