The graceful African Vulture are in danger and in Ghana there are fewwr amnd fewer found in the mafket places.

No Vultures at the Marketplace

By Rev Peter E Adotey Addo

May 2012

I went to the village today

And the marketplace was full

Mostly women as usual,

With their wares from everywhere.

Oranges, mangos and yams of every kind

And oh, the pungent red chili peppers,

Multi-colored fabrics from home and abroad,

Waving like flags in a parade.

There were still all the different noises

Including those made by the market women.

Including the goats and their cries and the beggars

And missing from all of these were

Those Noble and Majestic African Vultures

Those African Vultures who cleaned up each day.

Is it true that the African and Noble Scavengers

As I remember them long ago

Went the way of the Chicken to the dinner table?

Some said so, but I do not believe it.

Heaven help us if this is true .

Dedicated to the vultures I chased admired at Suhum ,Ghana West Africa

All of God's creatures were put on earth for a purpose.
Man was put in charge of them and is not doing a good job is he?
When will man ever learn?

Well done Peter!

Everyone needs to occasionally get to a marketplace like that–I have, and found it wonderful.

As for the vultures. I'm afraid they may be on on some dinner tables. Also, once all the wild game and predators that killed them are gone, so too will be the vultures. And not just from the marketplace.

Nicely penned, Peter....sadly far too many of our precious earth's creatures are being wiped out....
