Part of the Shadow Man series by J.S. Farnsworth

We wandered to the wilderness
to see the shadow man
Who held the poor boy's innocence
beneath a groping hand.
A candy cane of something sharp
is what the stranger used
To tear the smile from off his face
and split the boy in two.
I asked the shadow man to stop
before the boy awoke
He told me I was powerless
I slit his lying throat.
I saved a boy beneath a tree
that night when we were young
We wandered to the wilderness
to see what we had done.
