The Clover on the Hill
by Samuel J Zewe

Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Rated "G" by the Author.

A Poem for Shasta (02/01/1997 - 02/21/2009)

The clover is green and firm,
though spring has yet begun;
it covers the hill in a blanket, soft,
and warmed by the morning sun

In the clearing she stands,
guided by His loving hand
Her leash and collar tossed aside,
waiting eagerly for His command

She glances up at Him, a smile returned,
and He motions, as if to say, ‘It is time’,
and with that she’s away,
upon the hill of clover, run,
to sniff the flowers, feel the wind
upon her face, she barks; a squirrel,
has invaded her special place

She barks once more then turns away
to lie upon the clover green,
she closes her eyes to the sun-lit day,
and there, upon the blanket firm,
she dreams

The clover is green and firm,
though spring has yet begun
it covers the hill in a blanket, soft,
and warmed by the morning sun

From her perch she sees
the others waiting patiently
for their turn upon the hill of clover, run,
to sniff the flowers, feel the wind
upon their face, and lie upon the clover green;
to while away the day,
and dream

The clover is green and firm,
though spring has yet begun
it covers the hill in a blanket, soft,
and warmed by the morning sun

Hello Samuel,

I love this poem, because I like clovers, and the color green. the scenery is very refreshing, as nature is intended to be. Thanks for this.

A beautiful picture that calls on the imagination of the reader to see what the writer sees. The carefree run of the dog is a joy to read. I would like to have been the one there, setting her free, watching her revel in the clover bed.
Samuel, I wrote the preceding, entered it, and suddenly realized that you had written it "in memory of Shasta" Now I am adding to it, so I may share my sincere condolences to you in so great a loss. God has blessed you with fond memories--it's wonderful that you have put this one into words to keep.

Samuel,

I can picture the beautiful green and the warm sun. You draw the picture so gracefully. I love green. (too bad I live in the desert)
