Life's ways are unpredictable.Red Roses for a Mother from her soldier son on Mothers' day-----and then Red Roses from his mother on his last journey.Joy and Sorrow in a blink of an eye----Live for the moment-----in grace, love and beauty----for that is all one has .

Just some time ago,

Not so very long ago.

You came home, on a surprise holiday,

To be with me on Mothers' day.

Your deep baritone ,

Booming loud –is anybody home?

We were thrilled to see you ,

Your embrace so warm and true .

It’s good to see you home my  son,

I beamed , as if I’d a  marathon won.

Gifting Red roses to  me, your Mother,

You thrilled me to my core like non other.

Little did I know what fate had in store for me?

For  we were  planning your wedding with glee.

A Christmas wedding was awaiting your return,

We got such news ,that our  hearts did  churn.

You had answered the highest  call of duty,

Made the supreme sacrifice of priority.

Your dear ones too  stunned and shattered,

Our beautifully woven dreams now  lay in tatters.

The wedding gown in the cupboard hung forlorn,

In a blink of an eye all happiness was shorn.

Bereft and aching we clung together,

What night ?–what  day? nothing mattered.

And home they brought our warrior dead,

Eerie silences, no words  were said,

As on your final journey  you proceeded .

Serenaded by the 21 guns salute, draped in the National flag,

Stoicaly we marched alongside, praying  our spirits did not sag.

For ,you lived gloriously with laughter and fun,

Our Hero, our love, our beloved Son.

You have crossed all frontiers of time and space,

Journeyed  Homewards  adorned  with  Hundred   Red  Roses and  the  Almighty’s grace!

If only one soldier gave up his life in battle, one mother would grieve for her loss. This is an outstanding poem that I hope is published for all the world to see and know the price of war. I will pray that God gives you comfort through out your life and a prayer for that brave son of yours who I know is in heaven waiting for the day that will never end and we will all join our loved ones in eternal bliss with God.

So loving and accepting of this tragic event; I am sorry for your loss. The expressions allow me to both mourn and carry on happily, knowing someone has not gone from, but has transcended this life. Your skills and emotions are so tightly knit together. Thank you for sharing this.
