Poem from,"Scars of War."

 Your Own Reflection

This long journey is almost done

Though temptation will truly never be gone

You now know who you can be

Now able to truly see

All of your wrongs you have made

Your moral debts have all been paid

Your eyes have a new glimmer

No longer living in the rearview mirror

Now not causing everyone pain

Happiness and love you can obtain

Seeing a man where you once stood

Asking for help, if you could

Looking in his eyes you see

The man you used to be

Take him by the hand, show him the way

Today might be his new day

His story sounds like a bad dream

Something in you starts to scream

He too has lived through war

Not knowing now, what to live for

You tell them there is salvation

They too can beat this painful temptation

Asking them to put down the drink

Helping them to stop and think

How life used to be before

Hits something in his core

A smile slips across his worn face

You can be his sturdy brace

Holding them together when they’re weak

Now knowing the words you need to speak

Looking back on your own mistakes

Promising you know what it takes

Now they are not alone

It gives you chills to the bone

You might have helped them through

Who would have known, that man was you
