"Sadness" equals badness

They want you to believe it

I think it's absolute madness

But it's all in how you perceive it

"Something is wrong with you..."

"You have a serious medical condition"

"You are depressed"

A prescription for some pills

You and a doctor in a room

Together they will help you

To get better soon

The pills will fix

The imbalance in your head

The doctor will listen

And echo all you've said

I think the problem

Is all in your head

Because they have put it there

"You're depressed"

I wonder what they are

Just remember

That those who feel

Profoundly depressed

Are those whose

Happiness is likewise intense

What is so wrong with that?

The answer is nothing

But here is the catch

They want you to show up

Everyday to work

To be a productive

Member of their society

If it were up to you

Is this the society you'd choose?

So why should you care?

Some people care because

They fear the judgement of others

But not everyone fits

Into this puzzle

So they try to force you

Into the place they think

You should go

Deforming the picture

A war you don't want

To die for

Is one you should

Never be forced to fight

Prescriptions and pills

Are a lot like a draft

Forcing you to hand over

Your life and who you are

But they have turned this into

A war against yourself

They are trying to quiet

A part of you

That wants to be loud

Instead of feeling shame

Be proud

At least you feel something

Not everyone does

Maybe you aren't depressed

It could just be some part of you

Is being oppressed

Maybe it's nothing more

Than stress

Maybe it's a dozen different things

Maybe you're just a mess

Out of messes come

Accidental works of art

Embracing everything you are

Is actually a great start

That means the sad parts too

If you love yourself the most

At your happiest moments

There is no reason

Not to be fond of who you are

In the dark

A lot of people won't

Understand this

And that's okay too

As long as you know why

The moments of despair

Make you even better

Then nobody else needs to

"The Great Depression"

Fixed in one-hour sessions

And one pill twice each day

At least that's what they say

But this is not enough

To make everyone feel okay
