Just Words

Night fall is coming and I’m alone,
Just me on the highway miles from home.
The girl that I love will see me no more,
Her eyes dark and cloudy as a midnight storm.

Her Momma and Sisters said I’m to blame,
But I blame the whiskey lies and pain.
This life that I love stained with shame.
Missed my true calling but it’s all the same

Never to dance naked in wind or rain
Night fall is coming and it’s all the same.
The house of my love now cold as a stone
My death is upended. I’m back on the road.
The needs in my life like a dog with bone,
Gnawed and broken has God left me alone

I walk to the river, and piss in the sea
God help me understand what you see in me.
They lie with a finger and speak only pain
then judge my religion now that’s a shame

You call on your Jesus to ease your pain
as you poke with stick that man in the rain
Your Sin Oh so easy He can’t wash away
I see your hereafter, you’re who He blames

Night fall is coming now it’s you that’s alone
off of God’s highway without a Home
you cry out in darkness, mind racked in pain
still pointing that finger, only you take the blame.

Really well-written. If only people did what Jesus really said, they wouldn't be judging, poking or anything else. Good poem.
