I suppose i could show you lots of haiku, a few tanka, the odd zen poem or two...but this is much more fun!
Leafing through a pile of poems, not-choosing,
Inadvertently practising a new technique.
I consult my Zen muse.
(Male, sardonic, wickedly flirtatious; his sense
Of humour kills me. Frequently.) "Write a new one"
He says, confidently.
"But these are 'Proper Poets'!" I say, dispondently.
"Naaaaa!" His scorn is for my benefit. I can tell.
"Visualize them on the toilet!"
I look askance to where I imagine he sits,
Sprawled across an easy chair; blowing smoke rings.
"This is 'Proper Poetry'!"
"Pffft! Just put ordinary stuff in two line stanzas
and call it Post New Gen. Do a shopping list
That'll impress 'em"
"Naaaaa!" I say, grinning, getting it. "Lets do it in three lines
And tell them about the false sense of self"
"Ah! Sudden enlightenment!"
"But don't forget the obscure literary references"
"Otherwise they'll think we are just some Zen Bozo
With an imaginary poetic friend!"
