Ode To Nickie

It's about adopting a new puppy after the loss of a beloved first dog, Charlie Brown. He was 14 years old.

                         ODE TO NICKIE

It was a time to heal my sorrow past, deep within, it wouldn't pass.

I searched to find relief some way.

Then found Nickie Halloween day.

This hound was frightened beyond belief.

I had to carry him, he couldn't stand on wobbly feet.

His legs were long and lanky too, so weak from hunger so frail, but cute.

I tried to comfort him on that day, but no matter how, he wouldn't play.

Then a thought came to my mind.

A child, a child a must I'll find.

And so my niece did come that day and coaxed poor Nickie how to play.

She brought him toys and balls o throw.

And finally we began to see him glow.

My thoughts now wonder to that day.

The day my Nickie learned to play.

The joy he brought us all those years has healed our hearts, no more tears.

This is a beautiful, happy, brings-tears-to-the-eyes piece of poetry. Nickie is one fortunate puppy to have found a loving family. AND the family is just as fortunate to have found Nickie.
