Reflections

Looking in the mirror,
I see to my surprise,
A completely different person,
Staring deep into my eyes!

The carefree little girl,
I saw at 4 and 5,
Has now become a young woman
Fighting to surrive!

In a world filled with madness,
That surrounds me everyday,
It's frightening to think,
I could be beatened for what I say!

Remembering so long ago,
Picnics, swing sets, Barbies and water parks,
A time when I didn't worry,
About others remarks!

It's scary,
That time flies by so fast,
And what I used to call the present,
Has become the past!

And when I look in the mirror,
What I see looking back at me,
Is the face of a spring young woman,
Where that little girl used to be!!

I'm late in getting here, but now that I am I can say thank you for this offering of yours. You brought out the innocence of a young girl and her Barbie doll as opposed to today's world where insanity rules in much of the world, and I'm getting very worried about us here in America. Enjoyed your poem.

I enjoyed your poem's energy--it feels like the speaking voice in the poem is someone a reader can identify with and feel what she feels!
