Where Butterflies Can Thrive

(My wife recently passed, and many around me are encouraging me to avoid the depression and sadness that often comes to those who suffer loss. I'm trying my best. So far, I'm only missing her more. But God keeps pulling me forward. I will just trust in Him.)

They say I’ll be a butterfly,
Reaching heights till now unknown,
Zooming high into the sky,
Where no butterfly has flown.

I feel much like a caterpillar,
Trapped inside this dark cocoon,
Since death came to steal her,
I have little breathing room.

Crawling through another day,
Just struggling to survive,
I dream of a faraway place
Where butterflies can thrive.

When the caterpillar glances
At the butterfly in flight,
Does he imagine there are chances
If he dared then he just might?

What others claim to see in me
Is sometimes hard to understand.
Without her, can I ever be
That extraordinary man?
