Don't Take That Ride

Explaing to my youngest brother what happened on the day he turned two.

Don’t Take That Ride

Many years ago, in the kingdom of the walnut tree,

Lived Little Chris, and Tinkertoy who was three.

And their siblings, sisters, brother and me.

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

But life was not perfect, no;

And from that magical kingdom they had to go.

They moved near where the ocean did flow.

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

Listen as I tell you straight;

Of what the Sheriff nailed on the gate,

"You have three days to leave, don’t wait!"

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

The son of her mother’s brother,

Was where she took us, to no other.

Trusting him to provide safety and cover.

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

It was really my fault;

The food was bad, so full of salt.

When given the chance, I did vault.

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

The Fagins came and wanted Princess to play,

With their daughter for a day.

"Only if brother says OK."

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

"They’re kind of related, so…."

"Mom will never know…."

"OK, let’s go!"

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

That October 12 of 1962;

Would not end in days few.

What were we to do?

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

She discovered something amiss,

Picked up Tinkertoy and Little Chris.

We were not there, me and sis.

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

Out of work, what could she do?

It only took a month or two,

The court gave them Tinkertoy and you.

Don’t talk to strangers, don’t take that ride;

For I love you and want you always by my side.

Thirty seven years would go by,

Some crawled and some did fly.

Then rewarded was my try.

She asked not why I talked to strangers or why I took that ride.

For she loves us always, and longs for us by her side.
