The Painting
by Michelle Close Mills

Wednesday, August 19, 2009
Rated "PG13" by the Author.

Watching a friend struggle with addiction to love...

Plucked like a rose in bud,

I’ve been yours from the start.

Why have you had

this pull on my life?

Why did you count

when others did not?

We have coupled,

split up,

coupled,

split up…

A ceaseless tide

of tears, and of pain…

Now the dawn comes…

One we don’t want to face.

Painting, etching “farewell”

with a hard wire brush

scratching, scraping

across an weeping bruised canvas.

Never wanting to hurt you

or hurt me...

But it does...

It does…

It does nonetheless.
