Once Upon a Memory

memories are like the tides

sometimes rushing in

with a pounding roar to topple you

other times they gently wash over you

tugging you back to where

time seemed sweeter

when once upon a memory

I entered unseen mingling with the flow

if I paused, while walking through

events outside the memory kept unfolding

when I resumed

the changes have already happened

whether witnessed or not

altering what was, becoming what is

slowly leaving

the sounds old memories make

as they linger like a soft whisper

sliding back and forth, behind closed eyes

Memories- can also be the main events of your life
some popping up at the strangest times. Enjoyed Carole.

An interesting look at memory lane. I found that some people alter memories to embellish their resumes. While I try to be true to what I remember when I write it down, sometimes I find, to my embarrassment, that I have altered what happened.

Sorta like walking down an ever-changing labyrinth which really has no end except in your own thoughts.

It is good to mark your return to AD it's been a long time since you shared your poetry. This is a silky smooth work of great introspection Carole. May peace and love be always with you. Jon Michael,
