This is how I used to spend my winters, and how I spend them now. LOL

A Winter Day's Life
by Barbara Lynn Terry

I look out of my window at all the snow
and I just know, I just know
we are not done with this white powder
that through some mystic magic has the power

To be able to sing to those whose inner selves
have nothing better to do than to delve
in to the highest snow bank with their sleds
hoping they can warm up in the shed

The laughter of the children making a snowman
the loud, boisterous snowball fights
the skiing down a small hill
pretending it is a mountainside.

But in our older age, can we be as carefree
bundled up from here to there
and can hardly move with all the layers of clothing
that we dare not leave the house not wearing?

Oh the fun and guileless innocence that exudes
from the tiny little people we call children
makes the heart grow warmer
and ever so very happy.

Very nice!

Have to admit I often cling to the hearth instead of gettin' out
among 'em, but it is great to hear the happy squeals of children
sledding the long, steep upper section of a drive we share with a neighbor. They have a blast!

You are so right to accent the positive.

Thanks for the lift!

Your words made me feel like a child again, reveling in the snows of New York, sliding down driveways and snow drifts on high. Thanks for bringing me back to the years of old; your descriptive words made my heart feel young once again. A great offering, Barbara.

Beautiful words that lifted my heart....Snow brings out the child in all of us...and the sight of sun gleaming and sparkling on a fresh fall of snow is pure bliss!...Here in UK ours has finally disappeared..for the time being at least...

Best wishes, Diana...

Wonderful thoughts about how snow affects the generations. You left out snow shoveling that occupies the middle years.

So very true....went sliding with our son and grandson yesterday...and even though it was much colder for us than them...we had a ball acting like we were children once again.
