My Sweetest Rose

This poem was written for a few of my friends who recently lost their spouses of many years. |

GRIEVING
I stand beside the split rail fence
And gaze into the mist.
I see the fog in front of me,
And all the years behind.
Why have you gone my dearest love?
Must I go on alone?
I close my eyes and feel again
Your first embrace and kiss.
The fragrance of the rambling rose
Infuse my soul anew.
Like dewdrops on that lovely flower
A tear forms in my eye.
Where you have gone I cannot go.
The rail stands in the way.
I cannot pass that way just now,
But hold you fondly in my heart.
My sweetest rose, my lovely groom,
The mist will pass away.
The day will come when I can go
Beyond the rail with you.

| My Sweetest Rose is beautiful, Alice. I write a little poetry too and I love the sentimentality of this one. You have had an interesting life. I, too am of German descent; my mother was born in Germany and came to America at the age of 17. She never talked much about her native land and I'm so sorry I didn't ask questions before it was too late. Thanks for writing. Emma |

Dear Alice',
This is absolutely awesome and wonderful and sensational.
it's exceptional',
I didn't lose my spouse , but the most important person in my
life was /is my sister Sylvia and I relate to the beauty you've
expressed here.
I have written a few poem in her memory and not a day goes by that
I don't share the same sentiments you've expressed.
PEACE AND HOLY COMFORT',
