I lost a faithful friend. My smiling Golden Retriever, Angel Michelle, died July 14th, 08, and at nine years old I feel she died far too soon. I was grieving over how it isn't fair that we lose our most faithful companions capable of unconditional love so quickly when I received this very beautiful card from Angel's wonderful vet, Dr. Greg Stanbery:
(quoted from 'The Once Again Prince' by Irving Townsend from 'Separate Life Times')
'We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan...
Angel had a perfect white 'butterfly' on her chest and never minded when they landed on her, which was often. She was buried by the huge butterfly bush she loved to lounge beside in my flower garden. I'll miss my little 'butterfly dog'.
A local writer friend posted a wonderful memorial on her site for Angel at: www.maylandwriters.blogspot.com
I know there are many of you who love your pets deeply and have probably felt the grief I'm feeling now. I would love to hear from you.

| Pets are truly angels sent to love us unconditionally, so your retriever was aptly named, Chrissy. So sorry you lost her! Golden Retrievers have to be the most loyal and sweetest dogs on earth. I lost my dog to poison placed in meat and left to kill neighborhood cats by a neighbor(what kind of soul can do this?). Didn't know and by the time she had symptoms, it was too late to save her. It was devastating. How I wish she could have lived out her life. "Fragile circle", indeed. But the memories of that love will never be forgotten. Hugs...Lin |

The loss of a cherished family pet and good friend is a tragedy just as sorrowful as losing any other family member. We cry, we smile at memories, we move on but always with thoughts in our minds and our hearts of the one who went on ahead of us. My sincere codolences Chrissy.

Chrissy,
I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Even though many would consider her "only" a dog, to you she was a valued member of your family. Any of us who love God's creatures feels the depth of your pain. If there is anything I can do, please let me know.
Sage (below) alluded to the Inuit. If I remember right, the soul goes to the Northern Lights. May you see her playful spirit in the comfort of the Lights. Also, look for my Daddy, who passed away May 28 - wish I could see the Lights here in Texas, so I could say 'Hello' and 'Goodbye' ...
An excellent, heartbroken sharing. God bless and give you peace -
(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. |

Dear Chrissy,
When you emailed me a few days ago about Angel Michelle McVay's departure from this plane of life, I was also devastated. As I told you, the picture of her and you on the back of your book cover which you sent me, Souls of the North Wind, will be that much more special. This book is special anyway because of the Inuit, and I have researched how this Indian tribe mourns the loss of their animals...so may Angel Michelle's spirit live on in everyone's heart. My condolences, Chrissy to you and your family...I know you had many memorable treks with Angel Michelle...the card from your vet is beautiful...I grieve for Angel Michelle with you...
Love Always,
Sage |
