This is a reak erk to my heart.
So I am voicing my opinion with love
Blessings Cookie

Cardboard boxes for their homes
A child’s cries of hunger I can hear their moans.
People in need of blankets froze in their sleep
Huddled together in alleys looking like lost sheep.

An elderly man digs in garbage for something to eat
Standing in the bitter cold with nothing on his feet.
Teenagers selling their bodies to survive on the streets
Having no other options, they struggle to compete.

Hearts have grown cold where poverty’s concerned
Closing our eyes, trying to forget their cries that burn.
Reroute our money toward our own neglected souls
Not other countries where publicity is their only goal.

Medication costs have spiraled making others’ rich
Drug busts go to slush funds and it pays to be a snitch.
Missing vaccines sent to storage bunkers for the future
With generators, staples, medical tools and even sutures.

Conditioned through the media with endless repetition
Like water dripping on a rock, conforms it into submission
Belief in their words consumes leaving us complacently minded
Following as children with eyes that trust has Blinded.

We the people are enabling leaders to make our laws
It is time to take back our voice reinstating our cause
Recall what was relinquished becoming a unified voice
Making new changes through the power of choice.

Amen, as your passionate words ring true. It does seem that greed has fully taken over lately and our once fine country is turning into a third world nation. Sad, but very true...

Be always safe,
Karen

Carole, this is sad but oh, so true...the poor get poorer & the rich get richer. This gives a reader something to dwell upon.

Such a sad commentary on the way things are today. The leadership in this country is almost non-existent. Very eye-opening.
