A Distant Bell
by Kate Saundby

The sequel to A Circle of Arcs, this fast-moving historical time travel has been likened to riding a kayak through the rapids. If you were blind and could only see in..

Half the battle

In the dark
Behind my wall
I was safe
From it all

No more pain, and no more fear
You didn’t see me shed my tears

All alone in my box
Till I went crazy
And smoked some rocks

Then drank whiskey
I chugged it down
Till empty bottles
Were all around

I couldn’t take it anymore
I looked and looked for a door

Then came a light
Came from above
The shining light
Of your love

I clawed at the wall
I’d made of brick
Your faith in me
Did the trick

The bricks came down
One by one
But even now
I’m not done

There is much to do
But I’ve begun
So half the battle
Has been won
