When someone leaves our life, we sometimes feel we just can't go on

You came to my rescue

To keep me alive

Said you didn’t want

Me to die

Then days later

You said good-bye

So, I stayed alive

To feel this pain

All over again

When I could be

Facing hell’s fiery earth

For my sin

Of not wanting to live

For I’ve nothing more to give

For no one to take

What was offered

No new life to begin

For you  have moved on

Leaving me with this pain

With no future of reward

Of being given your name

None of my efforts

Have paid off

For the love I’ve tried

To show you

Only emptiness do I feel

While you hold the cup of cheer

From the life you have began

While I lay cold in the ground

Which is best

For an empty soul I

Would have roamed

Only living memories

Of what I thought

Was my life regained

Of the future

We were to begin

I’m a ghost you can’t see

I visit you from

Time to time

I see the gleam

In your eye

The one I thought would

Always be for me

Now it’s for her

The one who took my place

The day you said

Then, I died

Never to feel pain again

A soul-stirring write that awakens sharp and painful emotions to which I can relate. There's a typo in this verse: "For a empty soul..." I appreciate when others point out mine because I know I make some. Thank you for sharing this meaningful offering. Love and best wishes,
