The Stray Dog

This poem is about an actual event.I came across this video one night as I was searching for how to help abused animals. This was a terribly painful thing to watch and it affected me deeply. The two boys who commited this crime videotaped it....then were prosecuted.

A stray dog is beaten to death
as he sleeps there on the ground.
He was beaten with a skateboard,
nobody helped him-
was there nobody else around?

I wonder what he was thinking
as he tried to get away...
and while those teens were laughing
as the light he saw went gray.

I wonder what was funny
as the dog curled up in a ball-
just taking the beating they gave him,he had no choice but to fall.

His legs finally went weak,
he knew he couldn't get away.
So he curled in that ball
hoping someone would help...
and he will be okay.

That's how he was found...
still curled up in that ball
that he curled himself into-
up against that wall.

Whatever punishment (if any) these two punks received I can promise you it wasn;t enough as I understand the judical system today. Sad is just not the world for this, but it happens all over the world.

Very sadly, this type of god-awful activity is increasing today, as many seem to have lost empathy and compassion for our nonhuman neighbors. And even worse, our youth emulate our callous adult attitudes.

Oh my gosh..I hate to think about the crueltys..I agree right with Peter, if they got a taste of their own medicine they would not do what they do..I hope THEY PAY!!!!!!!!!

You highlight a shocking and disgusting incident of dog abuse, an all too common event in our uncivilised world !
If they got a taste of their medicine, they would never perpetrate these outrages again !

Tina,

Terrible, the abuses we commit against our furry friends, who love us unconditionally. What I want to know is, where were the parents? They ought to do the same thing to those boys. We had a disturbing case of abuse against a pitt bull, "Mercy." The perpetrator poured gas on the dog, stabbed it and set it afire. Despite valient efforts on behalf of vets, the dog died. No mercy. No mercy against these...creeps. Have a stronger word, but you know...a devastating write, very chillingly penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
