STILL AN ANGEL

STILL AN ANGEL

I’m still an angel
I’ll ever be
For as long as
Forever is.
What, these broken things?
You should know by now
I don’t need wings to fly.
Now that I’ve come back
To being me
With each kind word
For each good deed
A rent is knit
Till there’s no trace
None at all
Of the brokenness of me.
For every selfless act
A new feather sprouts
Till, surely
I’m better than new
Because,
Now that I’ve been without
I’ve learned to cherish
The gift of my wings.
