Her beauty is more than what you call skin deep
It is stronger than problems that keep her from sleep
Her beauty is more than smooth skin and thick hair
More than big eyes, full lips and the fashions she wears
Her beauty is greater than the tasks she is given
While working ten hours and raising her children
It comes from within, way down deep in her soul
From places she's been and stories she was told
From Mothers before her and from creators of art
From songs that were sung to comfort her heart
From cooks and seamstresses and preachers of faith
From Doctors and Nurses and lovers of mates
If you were to ask what makes the Black woman beautiful
To the world, to her offspring and to the man that she finds suitable
It's her gleam, her glow, her ways of self expression
Her words, her deeds and the way she teaches her lessons
The Black woman is beautiful for all to behold
On the outside and the inside and way down deep in her soul
