When We Were Young

No one waited for Spring rains to come
It didn't matter when we were young
We were new, to ourselves and to each other
And we saw with eyes that had yet to see
We knew that Winter would come
But we had Faith when we were young

We grew green when we were young
Our tree grew strong beneath the Sun
We laughed out loud as Summer stripped away our cares
And Life laid herself down for us
We knew that Winter would come
But we knew Joy when we were young

We turned shades of orange and red
We never stopped to think ahead
We fell slowly to the ground
We were strangers now, to ourselves and to each other
We knew that Winter would come
But we lost our Way when we were young

We laid buried under bitter snow
And wished someday again to grow
We all but lost the Faith we had
We were alone, but for sorrow and regret
We knew that Winter had come
And we longed for days when we were young

We were free when we were young
We basked in days of endless Sun
We fed on dreams and lived on hopes
Long since abandoned now
We never believed that Winter would come
We were strong when we were young
