California

Rated "G" by the Author.

A poem I wrote in 1975 after traveling all over the state of California. This is one of the poem from my book "My Life Is A Poem".

CALIFORNIA
(from My Life Is A Poem)

by Share "Wind Woman" Bond

I stand naked on the cliff overlooking the shore.
As the ocean moves, the wind brushes my hair.
The sun warms and caresses my body.
The sound of waves crash against the rocks
and the birds cry out their happiness.
I smell and taste the salt spray.

A lonely seagull flies down to rest on my arm for awhile.
I look at him and we enjoy each other's peacefulness - we smile.
We share the day and as the sun disappears,
we are outlined by the colors of the sunset.
The moon rises, and he flies away.
The night breeze and his wings make me shiver and once again I am alone.

I see miles of desert sands and cactus.
I lay on the ground hearing the sand crunch beneath me.
Dry heat pours life into cactus, desert wildlife, and me.

I drift away from this beauty, only to run smack into the city.
I see LA - all glitter and smog and buildings shaking.
I hear cement creaking and glass breaking.
I see the fear in the people's eyes.
I lay down on your city and feel the earth tremble beneath me.
I have to leave this nightmare and return to my dream . . .

I travel through your giant forests and up your mountains.
I see the heavens from the highest peaks.
I hear the music of your animals.
I love the smell of your fresh air, the green of your forests and animal musk.
I wade in your rivers and streams, your clean sweet water - better than dreams.
I feel the kiss of nature breathing and living around me.

California, you are beautiful.
Thank you for showing me your ocean, mountains, deserts and giant forests.
I could listen to your music of the sea, wind and animals forever.
I love to smell the green of your forests, salt of your sea and fresh mountain air.
The taste of your salt spray and clean sweet air will forever be on my lips.

I feel I am a part of you . . .
