I'm talking not only about peace on a global level here, but on a community and interpersonal level as well.

An epidemic of madness
Never-ending cycles
of deadly folly

Guns and missiles fire wildly
Bullets and bombs drench the sky
A flock of destruction
Soaring through the air
Mortally wounding
The ‘Enemy’

Blood drenches the ground
Trickling through the soil
Watering the evil seeds
Of Revenge
And Hatred

Bodies of wasted lives
Continue to pile
We shed tears
And mourn our dead
Only to reach for a grenade
And hurl our same ghastly fate
Upon the ‘Enemy’
Mortally wounding

In a tree
A tree reaching
The gold lining of the fluffy white clouds high above
A sweet dove casts her wise compassionate eyes
On the blur of chaos and destruction below

A healing tear
Trickles gently
Down her check
A tear of compassion

She leaves her nest
And encircles the world
Singing songs of peace
For every man, woman and child

To not only hear
But embrace

To not only believe
But to live by

Listen closely dear humanity!
We cannot hear
Her mesmerizing healing voice
Over the screeches and booms
Of wartime death songs
Her voice is soft and gentle
For we cannot drive out hate
With harsh brutality
But only through gentle persistant love

Stop slinging bombs
Cruel words
And hate at each other
For what you throw
Will only boomerang
Right back

Close your eyes:
Listen to the pleas of your enemy
Set down your weapons
Instead speak in gentle words;
Disarm your ears of all hostility
All grudges
All judgments and bias

Listen murmurs of your enemy’s heart
Listen with your heart
Connect the two

Listen now to the compassionate murmurs of your heart
Let that stream of compassion flow from your heart
To your lips
Speak not out revenge
Out of hatred
But out of desire to connect
Two human hearts

Open your eyes:
The enemy is gone
And from their ghost emerges
A human being
